Composition en demi-valeurs Öl auf Leinwand50 x 50 cmMonogrammiert und datiert am unteren Bildrand links: TH.v.D. / 1928.; rückwärtig in Schablonenschrift auf dem Keilrahmen: "THEO VAN DOESBURG / COMPOSITION / EN DEMI VALEURS"; mit dem Pinsel auf der Leinwand signiert und datiert: Theo v. Doesburg / 1928 [unterstrichen] ParisKunstmuseum Basel, Schenkung Hans Arp 1966Inv. G 1966.10 Zwei Entwurfszeichnungen im Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo und eine im Centraal Museum in Utrecht, sowie zwei Fotografien des Werks im unfertigen Zustand illustrieren den Entwicklungsgang dieses Gemäldes (vgl. Abb. in Hoek 2000, S. 497–498). Einer dieser Entwürfe ist unterschrieben mit "XXIII / Comp. avec dégrad." (Hoek 2000, S. 498, Kat. 823a), was Hoek zur Annahme führt, dass Van Doesburg das Basler Werk ursprünglich "Composition XXIII avec dégradation" nannte, so wie es auch in mehreren früheren Publikationen genannt wird (u. a. Ausst.-Kat. Nürnberg/Basel 1969, Polano 1979). "Dégradation" bezieht sich gemäss Hoek 2000, S. 497, auf die graduelle Farbreduktion in den Farbflächen unten links und oben rechts, wie sie auf den Entwurfszeichnungen und auf Fotografien von früheren Zuständen des Gemäldes noch erkennbar ist, während es sich hier um ebenmässig verteilte Farbflächen handelt. |
