Français : D'après un dessin de Le Brun, tiré de l'Iconologie de Cesare Ripa. Mais Girardon a transformé l'allégorie conventionnelle en une évocation dramatique et même tragique, d'un homme en proie aux forces de la mort. Son attitude recroquevillée sur le brasero traduit l'instinct de survie de ce vieillard qui se sait condamné.

Français : Cet original fait partie de la "Grande Commande", Parc du château. Prévue pour le parterre d'eau, au nord de la grande perspective ouvrant sur le parterre de Latone et, au fond, sur le Grand Canal, la statue a finalement été placée sur les rampes du parterre du Nord. Elle se trouve désormais à l'abri dans la Galerie Basse du château depuis 2009

English: The statue in the garden is a copy. This one, the original, is sheltered from erosion in the Galerie Basse (Lower Gallery) of the castle, where it was restored, since 2009.
Français : Oeuvre restaurée grâce au mécénat de M et Mme Julio Mario Santo Domingo et remplacée dans les jardins par une copie.
