| Description |
English: Immature/juvenile male specimen of the dragonfly Scarce Chaser (Libellula fulva); fresh carcasses. Note the spotting on the wing tips (for males often only weak). Younger females look very similar (but notice the shape of the upper appendices at the end of the abdomen). The animal was found dead on a bike path – apparently after a collision with a vehicle (see deformed head). Total length: ~44 mm, wing-spread/wingspan: ~80 mm.
Deutsch: Unausgefärbtes, juveniles Männchen des Spitzenflecks (Libellula fulva); frischer Totfund. Die namensgebende Fleckung an den Flügelspitzen ist erkennbar (bei Männchen nicht selten aber nur schwach ausgeprägt; kann sogar fehlen). Jüngere Weibchen sehen sehr ähnlich aus (beachte hier aber die Form der oberen Hinterleibsanhänge). Das Tier wurde auf einem Radweg gefunden – nachdem es offenbar mit einem Fahrzeug kollidiert war, wie der deformierte Kopf vermuten lässt. Körperlänge: ca. 44 mm, Flügelspannweite: gut 80 mm (die Hinterflügel sind etwa gleichlang wie die Vorderflügel, sehen hier aber kürzer aus, da die Spitzen etwas mehr nach oben zum Betrachter gerichtet sind). |
