Description |
English: Probably the painting exhibited by Desnos at the Salon of 1838 (# 503) with the description (in French) : Madame de la Vallière - Avant d'entrer au couvent, elle vient se jeter aux pieds de la reine pour obtenir son pardon.
The painting would therefore depict Louise de La Vallière, mistress of King Louis XIV, asking forgiveness from the latter's wife, Queen Marie-Thérèse, before taking the veil. |
