Maddalena Riggi (29. November 1765 Mailand - 24. Juli 1825 Rom). Ölgemälde von Angelika Kauffmann. In Castell Gandolfo lernte Goethe (Herbst 1787) "die schöne Mailänderin" kennen, die ihm eine "blitzschnelle Neigung" einflößte. Da sie verlobt war, verzichtete er still und blieb auch nach der Lösung des Bandes fest. Den Abschied der "halbbewußt Liebenden" hat Goethe in der "Italienischen Reise" mit Zartheit geschildert. Am 7. Juli 1788 nahm Maddalena durch Heirat mit Giuseppe Volpato, geboren am 26. Januar 1765, verstorben am 12. November 1803, dessen Namen an. Am 5.
