Español: Escribe María Sáenz Quesada: «Rugendas pintó un retrato de Mariquita que se conserva en el Museo Histórico Nacional y está considerado como el trabajo de mayor importancia y jerarquía artística que ejecutó el artista alemán en el Río de la Plata: el único retrato individual al óleo que hasta ahora se le conoce en la Argentina, afirma [Bonifacio] del Carril. (...) El cuadro está ambientado en las barrancas de San Isidro, con la modelo sentada a la sombra de un ombú, el arbusto gigante de la pampa cuya originalidad no había pasado desapercibida a los ojos del artista. Ella aparece pequeña, frágil, delgada y esbelta, sin el embompoint característico de las matronas porteñas, con los largos bucles negros enmarcando el rostro de frente despejada, nariz fuerte, ojos vivaces. Viste sobriamente de seda oscura, mangas abullonadas y encajes en el escote y los puños. En gesto pensativo, sostiene la cabeza con el brazo que apoya en el muro, mientras la otra mano se abandona en el regazo. Tenía 58 años».[1]
