Italiano: Maria Antonietta con una rosa: «In un paesaggio campestre che ricorda la vegetazione del Trianon, una giovane donna che indossa un abito di seta azzurra con drappeggi a sbuffo sui fianchi e ornato di merletto tiene tra le lunghe mani una rosa sbocciata, simbolo dell'effimero. Offre quel fiore come sembra offrire quel petto voluttuoso, del quale si intravedono i contorni attraverso una leggera balza di chiffon. Il collo lungo e sinuoso, ornato da due file di perle, conferisce una grazia maestosa a quella figura elegante. La bocca carnosa nel lungo ovale del volto è maliziosa, ma lo sguardo azzurro, capace di esprimere benevolenza o ostilità con notevole intensità, tradisce un tocco di melanconia.» (Evelyn Lever, Maria Antonietta - L'ultima regina, Milano, 2007) Questo e' forse il ritratto più conosciuto della regina e alla Le Brun vennero commissionate molte copie con lo stesso soggetto.
