(end of the 16th century) Mythological Allegory c. 1580 Oil on canvas, 130 x 96 cm Musée du Louvre, Paris Venus is the focus of this anonymous composition representing the allegory of Water or Love, which pictures her emerging from a pond in which the Three Graces dance. She chases away satyrs and putti trying to steal the arms of Cupid, shown asleep amid flowering underbrush.
