Longtemps considéré comme le portrait de Marie-Madeleine de la Vieuville, comtesse de Parabère (1693-1773), maîtresse du Régent en 1716, cette identification est aujourd'hui contestée. Peintre de fleurs, il est possible que Blin de Fontenay ait travaillé en collaboration avec un portraitiste comme c'est le cas pour l'œuvre similaire conservée au Honolulu Museum of Art. Une copie est commandée en 1842 par Louis-Philippe au peintre Elzidor Naigeon (aujourd'hui conservée au château de Versailles)." |
