English: A view of the British attack on the French fleet off Cape Finisterre on 14 May 1747. War of the Austrian Succession (1740-48), a detailed account of the action and a key, 1-30, to the names of the ships represented in the view, together with the names of their captains.
Not recorded in Parker. Admiral George Anson, in command of 14 ships of the line, attacked a 30-strong French fleet commanded by Admiral de la Jonquière, on 14 May 1747 (N.S.) off Cape Finisterre. The result was a British victory with the capture of four French ships of the line, two frigates and seven merchantmen. The battle lasted five hours.
