Description
The painting portrays the Danish lieutenant Johan Peter Andreas Anker (1838-1876). He and lieutenant Castenschiold alternated as commanders of Sconce II at Dybbøl, defending it against the Preussians. He was in command when they stormed the sconce on April 18, 1864 and was captured. Hansen painted him leaning against an 84 pounder gun.
