Description
September 2013.
English: The Opernpassage in Vienna, a pedestrian underpass of the most busy crossroads of the city near the opera house, was built in 1955 and opened on 4 November 1955, one day before the reopening of the Vienna State Opera after World War II. Planned by Adolf Hoch it has been a symbol for a modern spirit in architecture and urban planning. Cooperating with the Federal Office for the Protection of Monuments in Austria the City of Vienna undertook a complete restoration of the structure, which was reopened on 17 September 2013. It shows the original design of the round columns, the curved glass of the shop windows, and the chequerboard pattern of the floor.
