Description
Dansk: "Efter Frokosten". Fra Zahrtmanns spisestue i Casa Cerroni i Civita d'Antino med kunstnerens hustru Marie Elisabeth Tom-Petersen i samtale med en Rosina. Olie på lærred 1892. 66 x 79. Udstillet: Charlottenborg 1893 nr. 388.
English: This painting is a bit tricky, as it appears the artist made two almost identical versions (including size) in 1892. The art blogger Preben Juul Madsen (see references) commented on this in connection with the 2008 auction of the second version. The auction houses involved in the sales (Bruun Rasmussen and Lauritz.com) never suggested that there were two versions, but Juul Madsen pointed out that the alignment of the window and the furniture to the left was lower in the present version than on the one from the 2008 auction. Bruun Rasmussen claimed for both paintings to have been present at Charlottenborg in 1893, while Lauritz.com did not claim that this version was there. Lauritz.com showed a very crude photo of the verso with no signs of a Charlottenborg stamp. Only one of them could have been present, so that is still up for discussion.
