Français : Peinture présentée par Pauline Auzou au Salon de 1808. Ce portrait de famille réunit symboliquement trois générations autour du dramaturge Louis-Benoit Picard (1769-1828). Il est représenté alité, en homme de lettres avec une table d'accouchée posée à ses pieds et une écritoire en acajou. Des manuscrits de travail, un livre relié en cours de lecture, une plume, de l'encre et une tabatière composent l'immédiat du dramaturge. Assise contre lui, à l'extrême droite, se tient son épouse Victoria de Longchamps. De l'autre côté, à gauche, sa soeur, Adèle Picard, et son frère Latour Picard. Ils lui offrent, avec leur autre soeur, Madame Guersant, de l'autre côté, le portrait de leur père, par Pauline Auzou. Ce portrait de "Monsieur Picard Ainé, ancien avocat et parlementaire" a valu au salon de 1806 une médaille d'honneur au peintre. L'enfant en veste rouge, neveu de Picard, légende cette scène d'un compliment: "Nous n'offrons que ses Traits et tu nous rends son Coeur". Cet enfant est le futur médecin Paul Louis Benoît Guersant (1800-1869), frère du bébé debout sur le lit, Madame Blache, par la descendance de laquelle ce tableau a été conservé. Madame Guersant, soeur de Louis-Benoit Picard, en robe bleue et hermine, tient d'un côté sa fille dans les bras et de l'autre le portrait de son père. Son mari pose sur son épaule une main protectrice. Il s'agit du docteur Louis-Benoit Guersant (1777-1848), qui se fit connaitre par ses travaux sur les maladies de l'enfance. En 1813, il vint à bout d'une épidémie de typhus qui tuait des enfants par centaines en Bourgogne. Sous la Monarchie de Juillet il est le médecin des enfants royaux. La belle soeur de Picard, épouse de Latour Picard, est assise à l'extrême gauche en robe noire et châle rouge. Les murs sombres et vides mettent en valeur chacun des personnages. La petite cheminée en marbre à gauche, le tapis à alvéoles vert en bas, et le montant du lit en acajou surmonté d'une figure féminine en ébène marquent un intérieur raffiné et discret. La composition rayonne autour du portrait de Picard l'ainé, mais les regards joyeux sont tournés vers celui à qui en est fait le présent, jour de sa fête, à la Saint-Louis. |
