Français : Présentation du Piano orchestre électro-moteur [Pianoorchester] de Johann Baptist Schalkenbach [1824-1910] au palais de Saint-Cloud.
Le brevet du Piano-orchestre a été déposé à Paris le 12 octobre 1861, puis à Trèves en 1862 ([1]). Schalkenbach habitait alors « chez Grisza, au 61 rue Bourbon-Villeneuve » ([2]). Le 5 décembre 1861, Le Journal des débats publie un encart publicitaire de la « Manufacture et orgues harmoniums, Alexandre Bataille et Cie », 37 boulevard Saint-Martin, « exploitant le Piano-orchestre à clavier » de Schalkenbach de Trèves ([3]). Selon L'Art lyrique et le music-hall. Journal indépendant des cafés-concerts, concerts et théâtres (avril 1897), il se produit avec « orchestre électrique » au Casino de Bruxelles ([4]). La revue Leonardo Music Journal (Volume 23, 2013, 79–85) a publié un article scientifique signé Daniel Wilson à son sujet et révèle une activité importante à Londres, où il se produisit dans des music-hall et aussi qu'il composait, ce que Le Monde illustré de 1862 avait déjà déclaré, décrivant les sons que produisait le Piano-orchestre comme « imitant les bruits de la nature ».
