Description
English: Architectural Fantasy with Colossal Arcaded Façade Overlooking a Piazza with Monuments. This imaginative composition from Piranesi’s early years in Rome anticipated his work in the Prima parte di Architetture e Prospettive (1743). Using dramatic contrasts in scale and perspective, Piranesi situated naval monuments and statues, including the famous Dioscuri, the horse tamers, before a fanciful building with a domed rotunda.
