Title
Pont de la Réforme and Quai des Ormes
Description
Located in the fourth arrondissement, the Pont de la Réforme was originally named Pont Louis-Philippe following his placement of the first stone during construction in 1833. The bridge was given its current name after the revolution of 1848, during which it underwent serious damage. Although it was repaired shortly following the revolution, the bridge was eventually replaced in 1861 by today's structure. This photograph was taken in 1851 by Charles Marville who was known for capturing images of older Parisian quarters prior to urbanization. In 1850, Marville was hired by the city of Paris to document the changes brought on during the demolition and reconstruction of the Haussmann era. He was named the official photographer of Paris in 1862.
