Deutsch: "Wir danken Francesco Petrucci, der die Zuschreibung des vorliegenden Gemäldes auf Grundlage einer Digitalfotografie vorgeschlagen hat.
Giovanni Maria Morandi wurde in Florenz geboren und ausgebildet, war jedoch vorwiegend in Rom als Porträtist tätig, wo er Anerkennung für Werke wie das vorliegende Gemälde fand. Livio Odescalchi war der Neffe von Benedetto Odescalchi, Papst Innozenz XI., und kämpfte 1683 in der Schlacht vor Wien, als die Heilige Liga die die Stadt belagernden Türken besiegte. 1689 wurde Livio Odescalchi zum General der Santa Romana Chiesa ernannt; im selben Jahr erhob ihn Kaiser Leopold I. aus Dank für seine Loyalität zu den Habsburgern in den Stand eines kaiserlichen Fürsten des Heiligen Römischen Reichs. 1713 verlieh ihm Karl III. den Orden vom Goldenen Vlies. Ein Jugendbildnis Livio Odescalchis von Jacob Ferdinand Voet in der Walters Art Gallery in Baltimore bestätigt die Identität des hier Dargestellten. Experte: Mark MacDonnell " |
