English: Portrait of William, Duke of Clarence (1765-1837), later William IV, in midshipman’s uniform, with the ribbon and star of the Order of the Thistle, 1780; after Jeremiah Meyer’s portrait. Note: Prince William (1765-1837) joined the Royal Navy in 1779 at the age of 13 earning the nickname of ‘The Sailor King’ later in his life.
