Summary
[edit]DescriptionRussian soldiers camping on the Siberian steppes (Woodville sketch).jpg |
English: "The hardy Russian soldier needs all his endurance in the present war. This sketch by Caton Woodville shows a bivouac on the Siberian steppes.
Every three Russian soldiers carry a small "dog tent." It stands three feet six inches from the ground and is supported by three jointed poles. Often the men dig a hole in the ground, pitch the tent over it and fill the hole with straw. For extra protection they throw the excavated earth on top of the canvas and put snow over it." |
