Taken from a set of illustrations from the designs of Leon Bakst for The Sleeping Princess which were originally published by Ben Brothers in 1923, this illustration is labelled 'Planche XXXV: Le Roi avec ses Pages'. The image shows the King dressed in an elaborate suit of armour over tight white and gold breeches with a long red train, lined with ermine and decorated with silver fleur de lis. He also wears a helmet decorated with a gold crown and long plumes of red feathers. His train is being carried by two identically dressed pages wearing red and white striped jackets, red breeches with striped hose and turbans with a single gold feather. Harry Beard Collection. |
