Description

Stamp of the United Arab Emirates – Emirate Sharjah; 1968; commemorative stamp to the issue "Mother’s Day 1968 – Paintings"; Meant is the Arabian Mother’s Day on .; issue of 8 stamps, 1 from these also imperforate; The depicted stamp is UAE-SH Michel No.: 426A from 1968 and shows the painting "La Promenade matinale" (German: "Der Morgenspaziergang", English: "The Morning Walk") by Thomas Gainsborough (1727-1788).; This painting was created in 1785 in the style of the portrait paintery of the 18th century.; The artist has firstly in the art history painted a couple in a real landscape.; Contemprary location of this painting is the British "National Gallery" in London.; Depicted is the Squire William Hallett and Mrs Elizabeth Stephen short before their wedding on in the church St.Lawrence in Little Stanmore (England).; Both are also buried there.; The painted landscape is the "Canons Park" in Middlessex (England) although this couple had never lived there.; The painted dog is a Pomeranian (Germanː "Zwergspitz") then called as "fox dog".;  stamp postmarked by CTO ("cancelled-to-order")

and also after them one had joined the new founded independent United Arab Emirates on . Before 1963 it has given only a military mail service of the British Forces stationed in that area. The first definitive stamps of the United Arab Emirates were issued at . Mixed postages UAE/SHA are seldom, but known. In 1963 and after were issued so-called "Dunes issues" by this state after an windy US-American with name Finnbar Kenny conducted in 1964 a deal with the rulers of a number of the Trucial States to take the franchise for the production of stamps for their respective governments. However, the same Finnbar Kenny came 1964 before the court in the USA because a bribery affair in concerning to a deal with the govenment of the Cook Islands. Especially Arab editions about of the topics "Space" and "Olympic Games" (especially the Olympads 1964 and 1968) are seen as so-called "Dunes stamps" and are not listed in many popular stamp catalogues by that reason.
