(b. 1727, Venezia, d. 1804, Venezia) The Apotheosis of Hercules c. 1765 Oil on canvas, 102 x 86 cm Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza, Madrid The painting is a sketch for one of the now lost frescoes destined for the ceilings of the Winter Palace in Saint Petersburg. The commission was apparently given to Giambattista Tiepolo, but executed in collaboration with his sons Giovanni Domenico and Lorenzo. This work belong to a period when Domenico' work closely follows that of his father.
