English: Paulus Pontius (1603-1658) war ein talentierter Reproduktionsstecher und geschätzter Porträtist. Bekannt geworden als Stecher der Werke von Peter Paul Rubens, übertrug Pontius später auch bedeutende Werke von Tizian, Velásquez und Anthonis van Dyck in das Medium des Kupferstichs. Aus der intensiven Zusammenarbeit mit van Dyck entstanden über vierzig Porträts, von denen viele für die berühmte, von van Dyck edierte "Ikonographie", eine Sammlung von 100 radierten Bildnissen bedeutender Zeitgenossen, Eingang fanden, so auch unser Kupferstich.Theodoor van Loon (1581/1582-1649), ein flämischer Barockmaler, war durch mehrere Italienreisen mit der Kunst Carravagios bekannt geworden, die sein Schaffen nachhaltig beeinflusste. Seine Werke zeichnen sich durch einen italienisierenden Klassizismus aus, der in Brüssel und Leuven, den Hauptwirkungsstätten van Loons, großen Anklang fand.Bez. u.
