Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Original copper engraving, finely hand colored in wash and outline, published 1573 in a German text edition of the Atlas 'Theatrum Orbis Terrarum' at Christopher Platin in Antwerp. This is the first plate of the Transsylvania map by A. Ortelius published in the German text edition of the 'Theatrum Orbis Terrarum' (this plate has 5 lines of text rather then 4 as in the 2nd plate, which was published after 1575). This map was published only from 1570 towards the Latin edition in 1575. Ortelius based this map on the Cartographical sources of Sambucus in 1566. A highly decorative 16th century map of Transsylvania
