English: Entry of the Goddess of Peace, design by Bernhard Rode for the bas relief directly beneath the quadriga on the eastern face of the attic of the Brandenburg Gate. In the center, Peace – with an olive branch and laurel wreath in her hands – rides on a triumphal chariot drawn by four geniuses pulling on a garland of woven laurel. Proceeding before the chariot are Harmony, Friendship, Statesmanship, Victory, and Valor, before whom Discord flees. The chariot is followed by Joy (dancing and with a rose belt in her hands), Abundance (from whose cornucopia fallen fruits are gathered), Architecture, Painting, Sculpture, and Higher Learning alongside Music and Poetry, distinguishable because of the recognizable symbols they hold. |
