Description |
During his last weeks at Saint-Rémy, Van Gogh painted a number of flower still lifes. Just as he had in Paris, he used the subject to experiment with colour and contrast. Here he has placed the purple-blue flowers against a yellow background. Van Gogh spoke of 'an effect of enormously divergent complementary colours, whose contrasts make them stand out all the more strongly.' inv.
