Notes |
English: The miniature portrait shows a middle-aged gentleman in a dark blue uniform with yellow horizontal bags, collar and cuffs. His right hand resting inside his waistcoat, the ruff and his powdered hair are unusual elements in a representation of an officer and probably served to emphasize the private character of the portrait. It is possible that the sitter is an officer of the Prussian infantry regiment no. 10 Courbière or of the infantry regiment no. 28 Malschitzki. Both regiments wore yellow collars and horizontal bags, white buttons and traditional Brandenburg cuffs 1 .Moosbrugger' s representation shows an extraordinary brightness in the colours. The background - intimated park scenery and a sky which offers a view on a cloud landscape - is strongly modelled in clear gouache colours. |
