Wilhelm Kümpel. Geb. 5. September 1822 in Altona. Von 1843-1846 Schüler der Düsseldorfer Akademie. Geriet während oder nach dem deutsch-dänischen Krieg von 1848 in politische Gefangenschaft und ging anschließend ins Exil nach London, hier gehörte er zu den Mitbegründern eines "Deutschen Vereins für Kunst und Wissenschaft", auch "Deutsches Athenäum" [German Athenæum] genannt.
