Colors

[edit]
@Abjiklam: :@Spesh531: :@GeoffreyYeung:

I would like to suggest that this map be updated to be various colors, as all of the different shades of blue can be very confusing, making the map hard to comprehend. I have put an example below.

An Example

I'm not very good with images and .svg files, so i am unable to make the change myself, and would like consensus if possible as well. Opinions? Avrand6 (talk) 04:29, 10 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Avrand6: Actually I think multiple colors like that is more confusing. Using the same color in different shades from light to dark naturally shows the time progression. Are you having trouble distinguishing the different shades? Maybe we could increase the contrast. Abjiklɐm (tɐlk) 14:05, 11 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Abjiklam: Honestly, I am having some trouble distinguishing it. Using multiple colors would allow you to immediatly see what your looking for without difficulty. For example, if you wanted to quickly see the states for April, you could see "oh, April is the Purple" so you could quickly and easily see which states are April without confusion. Using different shades of the same color is confusing, as you cant immediatly see what color a state is. You just see "okay, so its lighter than this state but darker than this one" and you need to cross reference it with the key on the side, and because of the similarity of the many shades of blue, it can be confusing.

I can come up with what may be a compromise though. Perhaps we could simply use cool spectrum colors for the Democrats and Warm spectrum for the republicans. Thanks for your time! Avrand6 (talk) 04:03, 14 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
