Colors
[edit]This map is fine and gives a good overview.
On the other hand, the used colours can be misunderstood. Since, such comparing maps are usually connected with a political statement, the colour "green" suggests a positive situation in this state. So, maps showing the use of capital punishment use usually the colour green for states that have banned this punishment, red for states that do not only allow sentenes to capitalishment and execution but also actually execute this sentences.
Here, green is used for an age of consent of 18 years. Since, you might discuss about the "right" age of consent and this decision also depends on culture, (sexual) education, moral, and values, one cannot claim 18 yrs. as a positve or best decision. Since I am german and agree with the government's decision to state the age of consent to 14 yrs. (made in 1871), I am thankful, that Germany is not listed "red" or similar negative (orange). So, it is a good decision to choose blue and similar to blue colors for minor ages of consent in order to be neutral.
But then, please choose a neutral color for 18 and 19. Maybe, yellow.
- A more significant problem with the colours is that the colour scale doesn't match with normal expectations about how colour scales should work. For example, the colour for age 17 should logically be midway between those for 16 or 18. I would propose redoing this map, with the colour scale for the "simple cases (where age is the only criterion) being on a simple chromatic scale, rather than picking colours seemingly from all over the spectrum at random. Those items where the rule is not simply a number (such as "must be married") can continue as being outside that scale. Rhialto (talk) 08:18, 5 July 2017 (UTC)

[edit]Names
[edit]Can a modified version of this be made with the names of the countries next to them? Or at least a numbered list so people can tell? Hard to cross-reference easily with named maps of Africa or elsewhere.
Please update Kingdom of Spain
[edit]Please update Spain. Age of consent has been raised from 13 to 16 years pursuant the new version of the article 183 of the criminal code approved by Organic Law 1/2015, of March, 30th. See current wording of art. 183. Thank you. -- M\A 09:23, 3 August 2015 (UTC)

Texas
[edit]I'm pretty sure the Texas age of consent is 17 http://www.ageofconsent.us/state-laws/texas-age-of-consent-laws/
12 years
[edit]Might Angola and Philippines be shown in a darker yellow? Right now both countries are hardly visible, given the white background. Yrs., Agathenon (talk) 18:22, 30 November 2016 (UTC) (from German Wikipedia)
Age of consent in South Korea is not 18 years old

In fact, it is 13 years old. Please correct it.
- +1. According to Criminal Act article 305 (retrieved today) age of consent is really 13 years. 18 years (as shown in the file) may be legal age, which is something completely different. Please fix Japan, it's misleading!
[edit]as you can see on the wiki article itself https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ages_of_consent_in_Asia#Japan while the national law states a minimum of 13 years, other laws, many prefectural, override this to 16-18, with some exceptions in marriage with parents blessings. effectively it is Illegal to have sex with anyone 16 and under. please don't continue to spread this "japans aoc is 13" myth! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Heppyhop (talk • contribs) 20:26, 21 June 2020 (UTC)
Marriage
[edit]"must be married": It would be helpful to give the minimum age required for marriage in those countries. There is a difference between a) your father being allowed to marry you to some stranger (for the dowry of one goat) when you are 9 and your "husband" to divorce you at will and b) minimum age of marriage of 25 years. The map does not give any information about this. --2A01:C22:C1F9:6500:3D4D:6187:306A:E72E 11:18, 22 June 2022 (UTC)
Last changes
[edit]Hello, might anybody have a look at the most recent changes? There was no visible reference and (moreover) the big-surface edits as to Africa dont't seem very plausible. Best regards, Agathenon (talk) 18:41, 5 May 2023 (UTC) from Germany
Japan Update

Unreferenced changes
[edit]Hello, in the last months there was a lot of nonsense or unreferenced changes again, one even based on a "map from the year 200 after Christ" (even 2000 would be obsolete). In the present version the map is misleading and practically useless. Might anybody with enough knowledge have a look at the problem or solve it? Sorry for my bad English. Thanks and best regards, Agathenon (talk) 15:49, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
Replacing the color of the map of Panama and Costa Rica
[edit]Hello everyone. Could you replace the color of the map of Panama to light blue and green to Costa Rica?. The age of consent in Panama is 14 years old and the age of consent in Costa Rica is 18 years old. Severomáster17 (talk) 22:51, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
Nepal
[edit]Why the map shows that age of consent in Nepal is 16, while the wikipedia article ("Ages of consent in Asia") and all the sources say it's 18? Fix the map asap. Cyanmax (talk) 08:41, 1 May 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Unicef map
[edit]Updated Americas [south of Mexico and Bahamas] per Unicef map here: https://www.unicef.org/lac/media/40681/file/Legal-minimun-ages.pdf Countries not in that source I left alone.
This was the source used to change Cuba from 12 to 16, but now Uruguay shows as 12 and Costa Rica as 13. Also, Fr Guiana same as rest of Guianas per Unicef, but same as France per this map. That I left alone. Kwamikagami (talk) 02:04, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
Kosovo
[edit]Kosovo is missing in the world map. The age of consent is 16 (see Age of consent in Europe). Can anyone add it in the map? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gesetzesfreak (talk • contribs) 18:06, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
- Unfortunately the link doesn`t work. I mean the Wikipedia-Page of course. Gesetzesfreak (talk) 18:16, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
