Not Max Hamburger

[edit]

That is not Max Hamburger in the picture. He was at Dachau not Buchenwald. And the chance of two famous men enslaved in the same picture is very remote.

Apparently, there are two famous people called Max Hamburger. en:Max Hamburger is about the one who went to Dachau (born 1897, died 1970); nl:Max Hamburger is about the one who went to Buchenwald (born 1920; still alive). This article from a German newspaper confirms that Hamburger is in the picture. Pruneautalk 10:11, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Jena → Weimar

[edit]

Buchenwald is near Weimar (north of), not near of Jena.--Analemma (talk) 13:47, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

All Jewish?

[edit]

Description says "jewish slave laborers", but the description at the National Archives (http://arcweb.archives.gov/arc/action/ExternalIdSearch?id=535561) simply says:

"These are slave laborers in the Buchenwald concentration camp near Jena; many had died from malnutrition when U.S. troops of the 80th Division entered the camp. Germany, April 16, 1945"

The article on the camp says:

"Camp prisoners from all over Europe and Russia—Jews, non-Jewish Poles and Slovenes, religious and political prisoners, Roma and Sinti, Jehovah's Witnesses, criminals, homosexuals, and prisoners of war— worked primarily as forced labor in local armament factories."

So using the term Jewish slave labourers seems too specific - it should either be generalized to include other groups present or replaced with "slave labourers", unless there is specific information that all persons in the photo are Jewish. Thoughts? 87.113.0.82 01:10, 23 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Buchenwald is near Weimar, ... and not really near Jena

[edit]

(It maybe even a quarter of Weimar, I don't know...?) I have tried to correct this mistake, but it doesn't really function at all. So I hope, that somebody else will be able (and kind enough) to do. Thanks! --Impulsiv. (talk) 22:03, 27 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

other people identified

[edit]
  • Following this article, it seems that it was a young french man named Robert Marcault above number 27. Hector2 (talk) 00:20, 9 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • [1] : Paul Argiewicz
  • [2] : Naftali Fürst
Where in that article do they say that the circled person on the poster in the background was Naftali Fürst? Lupo 13:07, 9 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You are right, it is in fact not explicitly written. In this one, it is : [3] ( , ist Naftali Fürst in der mittleren Reihe von unten der Dritte von Rechts. ) Hector2 (talk) 16:40, 9 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Ok... Though in der mittleren Reihe von unten makes no sense. There's four stacked rows of bunks, so what's the "middle row from the bottom"?? The third from the right in the 2nd row from the bottom is already identified as Elie Wiesel and looks older than 12 years anyway. So let's just assume he was the one in the third row from the bottom, i.e., the one circled on that background poster. Lupo 09:47, 10 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. Concretly, do you think it is a good idea to add them ? (if yes, do you know practically how to do, i am not familiar with commons? I suppose you, since I just saw that you are the uploader of the photo... ;o) ). nb : This site provides several other names but it is probably better to retain only those for which we have exhibited an article, isn't it?Hector2 (talk) 12:53, 11 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
