Ambiguities due to disconnected parts

[edit]

It's unclear whether the two blocks representing the Upper Peninsula of Michigan belong to Michigan or Wisconsin unless one is familiar with US geography. If the former can be shifted downwards half a block, and surrounded by the white border on the left side but not the right, I think it will be clearer.

Similarly, New York's Long Island can be moved left half a block and remains connected to the rest of New York.

Noncontiguous parts of Hawaii and Florida are far enough from other states that they will not lead to confusion.
