I (User:Quadell) created this map. Please feel free to update it with more accurate information. It is very difficult to accurately map the geographically extent of an ancient culture.
Here are some (non-free) other maps of Celtic influence: [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6].
I received the following helpful criticism from Bogdan:
- Great map, but it misses the w:Celtiberians (central Spain), the Celts in w:Scythia Minor (w:Dobrogea, now in Romania, between the Danube and the Black Sea), as well as the Celts of Asia Minor.
- The map cannot quite stand like this, I'm afraid. The blue region should be labelled as the area of origin of the La Tene style of ca. the 5th century. It is wrong to associate this area with "1000-1500 BC", conjectures about the "Celtic homeland" of around that time are usually placed further east (Hallstatt, 8th century), and certainly less clearly delimited. If the area is marked, it should be more along the lines of [7], maybe blurring the blue region to symbolize its conjectural character. Dbachmann 14:03, 6 Mar 2005 (UTC)
I uploaded Image:Celts_800-400BC.png as a suggestion. Dbachmann 15:24, 6 Mar 2005 (UTC)
