Error in Caption

[edit]

The caption incorrectly states that Reed Smoot is missing. In fact, he was not a member of the Quorum until April 1900, whereas the photo is identified as being taken in 1898. The missing member in the photograph is Rudger Clawson. The caption incorrectly identifies him as being the 7th of eight in the back row. Which immediately raises the question who the person shown is. Any answer to that? Lupo 08:26, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That doesn't make sense. Don't know what I was thinking... Lupo 12:33, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm dusting off this old thread. Note that Clawson was not called to the Twelve until October 1898, which is one month after the date on this photo (September 1898). This photo was probably taken to commemorate the new presidency of Lorenzo Snow, before Snow's vacancy in the Quorum could be filled. Dates in this order are from w:Chronology of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles (LDS Church)#1890s
  • 1898 September 2: Wilford Woodruff dies.
  • 1898 September 13: Lorenzo Snow is made President
  • 1898 September 13-30: Photo is taken (during September, after Snow became President)
  • 1898 October 10: Rudger Clawson ordained.
  • 1899 December 9: Franklin D. Richards dies.
  • 1900 April 8: Reed Smoot ordained.
