Is this file supposed to be an accurate representation of the Finnish state flag as it was used in 1918-1920, or someone's personal opinion about it? All sources that I have at my disposal, namely

  • Kajanti, Caius, 'Suomen lippu kautta aikojen', Siniairut: Helsinki, 1983, ISBN 951-95798-0-X, p. 455 and 457
  • Digital collections of the Finnish National Archive (sv: "Finlands vapen. Godkändt af statens sigillkomite. 17. II. 1919." en: "Coat of arms of Finland. Appoved by the state committee on seals. 17 February 1919.")
  • Digital collections of the Finnish National Archive. (sv: "Finlands vapen. Förenklad teckning för flaggor etc. Godkänd af statens sigillkomite 25.II.1919." en: "Coat of arms of Finland. Simplified drawing for flags etc. Appoved by the state committee on seals. 25 February 1919.")

show that the flag looked like [1]. The image [2], despite its artistic merits does not correspond to the flag specified by Finnish authorities and the flags actually used. For example, the lion in this flag is based on a drawing by Olof Eriksson, done in 1968, so using it in a flag dating from 1918 is a pure anachronism. Moreover, the crown does not correspond to the model of grand ducal crown which was in use, at that time, in Finland. Oraivio (talk) 22:28, 30 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
