Necessary explanation on the color

[edit]

Please see notes explaining why this flag should not be coloured turquoise at File talk:Flag of Honduras (darker variant).svg.
Note that File:Flag of Honduras (darker variant).svg is a link to File:Flag of Honduras.svg, thus the notes are in the talk page of a link instead of the talk page of a real file. MapGrid (talk) 22:41, 26 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It seems that president-elect Xiomara Castro will return the flag to "turquoise blue" [1]. But I don't think it will be "#55B4B0". We should see after her inauguration.--Mike Rohsopht (talk) 02:53, 27 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Xiomara Castro has been sworn in, and photos from the inauguration confirm what news sources predicted: As of 27 January 2022, the official colour of the Honduran flag is turquoise. I'm uploading a new version of this file using #00bce4, which looks about right to me, but anyone please feel free to adjust it if there's a better source for the exact shade. :) I will also upload a separate dark blue image. Actually scratch that haha it doesn't look like I'm allowed to overwrite this file. Still someone should upload a new version. The blue as it stands right now is definitely wrong. AquaVacation (talk) 23:15, 27 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
My preferred options:
1. Do nothing until somebody updates the image at presidencia.gob.hn
OR
2. Use the colours from File:Flag of Honduras used by the UNAH.svg which were chosen by the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras. See [2]

I don't think we should do nothing, since we already have reliable sources that say the flag has changed ([3]). I'd suggest we go with option 2 and if an official hex code appears on a government site at a later date we can update the image then. AquaVacation (talk) 03:35, 28 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The funny thing is that when I look at the news photographs from yesterday I don't actually see any images of turquoise flags. I only see images of pale blue flags. Maybe there has been a terrible mistake. Or maybe my monitor is miscalibrated. MapGrid (talk) 08:14, 28 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Well "turquoise blue" is one of those colours that can look like a bunch of different things but I think here for example are some definitely turquoise flags: [4] [5] [6]. Also a lot of the graphics on Castro's official twitter account seem to use #62C2DA a lot so that's another hex code we could theoretically use. Use the colors of Xiomara's presidency site: https://gobiernoxiomara.hn/
File:Bandera de Honduras 2022.svg
The turquoise blue in here is more lighter that in the UNAH one, and is more similar to the presidential sash worn by Xiomara in January 27. COAmaker17 (talk) 16:55, 2 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@COAmaker17: I am genuinely impressed that all three elements on https://gobiernoxiomara.hn/ use a consistent colour!
Specifically, I see that the colour #18c3df has been used for:
  • the image which includes the stars and some of the text
  • the text below the image
  • the favicon.ico file
I will back your request to use the exact same colour for File:Flag of Honduras.svg until such time as the government publishes official colours for the flag.
And FYI, I am no longer holding out hope of an updated image at presidencia.gob.hn; that entire website looks like it has been abandoned! MapGrid (talk) 23:34, 2 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

missing file history

[edit]

The upload log says there were versions of this file as far back as 2005, but the history only goes back to 2018. What happened to the older versions? --Lasunncty (talk) 05:20, 27 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

That's beacause there was a previous file by the name "Flag of Honduras" uploaded in 2005, with a flag that years later was set with the wrong color. I disputed that color, and later uploaded this 2018 file under the name "Real flag of Honduras", replace the 2005 file with the 2018 file in some es-Wikipedia places and wrote that explanation above in this talk page. Over time, that explanation convinced wikipedians, who replaced the 2005 file with the 2018 one in many other places. Then the 2005 file was renamed "Flag of Honduras (2008 Olympics)", and also the 2018 file was renamed as "Flag of Honduras". And later the first file was deleted, for some reason. Update request (Turquoise)

[edit]

{{Edit request}} As per this news article, the new president of Honduras has unofficially returned the colour of the Honduras flag to turquoise which is the colour that the law has prescribed since 1949.
I use the term "unofficially" because there is no new decree or actual change to the law. Since the law already says the flag is supposed to be turquoise, a new decree or law is presumably not required.
There is no official documentation on this subject and the precise shade of turquoise has not been published. Waiting for the government to provide an official shade of turquoise may take a very long time and it may never happen. In the meantime, it has been suggested by User:COAmaker17 that this flag be updated to use the same color that appears on the president's new website. I support this suggestion because honestly there are no better options. So I am asking for a Wikimedia administrator to replace the current image in this flag (File:Flag of Honduras.svg) with the newly prepared file File:Bandera de Honduras 2022.svg which uses the colour #18c3df. As part of the change, File:Bandera de Honduras 2022.svg should then be converted to a link or redirect. Thank you.
Ultimately we may wish to upload a copy of the old flag (with the old colour) under a name such as "Flag of Honduras (1949–2022)" or whatever sort of file naming standard there is for such files. MapGrid (talk) 00:27, 3 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
