Wrong name
[edit]This isn't the flag of North Macedonia, but the flag of The Socialist Republic of Macedonia. --Skyfall (talk) 19:50, 17 February 2019 (UTC)
- @Skyfall: The flag was used by both the Socialist Republic of Macedonia and for a brief time by the Republic of Macedonia so best to use an accurate and inclusive name. After all, the Socialist Republic of Macedonia didn't exist in 1992. – Illegitimate Barrister (talk • contribs), 00:41, 26 May 2019 (UTC)
- {{Rename |1=Flag of Macedonia (1946–1992).svg|2=3|3=The name as it is right now is factually incorrect. The Socialist Republic of Macedonia ceased to exist in 1991 but the present filename suggests it existed into 1992. Also, this flag was not just used by the Socialist Republic of Macedonia, but by its successor state the Republic of Macedonia as well. Therefore, it's best to use an inclusive filename that encompasses both states for the sake of factual accuracy.|user=Illegitimate Barrister}}

I believe that as for most of the years it was the flag of the Socialist Republic of Macedonia, the current name "Flag of the Socialist Republic of Macedonia (1946–1992)" is adequate even if it is not perfect.
However, the proposed name "Flag of Macedonia" is grossly inaccurate. I agree that it is "inclusive" but "includes" entities that are not part of the country now called Northern Macedonia. Therefore, I believe that the proposal must not be accepted. I am open to see another proposal, otherwise the existing name is acceptable. --FocalPoint (talk) 12:23, 26 May 2019 (UTC)
- "but "includes" entities that are not part of the country now called Northern Macedonia". What do you mean?Никола Стоіаноски 19:21, 30 May 2019 (UTC)
My proposal: "Flag of the Socialist Republic of Macedonia (1946–1991) and the Republic of Macedonia (1991-1992)" . Factual and inclusive according to the request of the proposal "an inclusive filename that encompasses both states for the sake of factual accuracy". --FocalPoint (talk) 12:28, 26 May 2019 (UTC)
- The flag definitely was used by SR Macedonia and the name of the file should remain unchanged. The only reason for keeping it up to August 1992 is because of the adoption of the new law (keep it in mind that up to that period the constitution had to be adopted). Therefore, vexillologically and politically/ ideologically speaking it represent the SR Macedonia. Reason plus: Macedonia, the Republic (now N. Macedonia) and Macedonia, SR even though they had the same people and territory, they had totally different political systems. You can's say Flag of Macedonia in this case (but you can Flag of Macedonia for the flag before and after adding North to it since its the same country with the same political system and the same meaning/ description of the flag) ThanksНикола Стоіаноски 19:17, 30 May 2019 (UTC)
Many filenames are not 100% perfect. For example, File:Flag of the United Kingdom.svg and File:Flag of the United States.svg are not 100% accurate as there were many United Kingdoms and United Stateses throughout history. – Illegitimate Barrister (talk • contribs), 09:22, 31 May 2019 (UTC)
