Date 1841?
[edit]The date 1841 seems unlikely, because Hammer did not make his first trip to Italy until 1856. In 1841 he was still enrolled at the Academy in Copenhagen. --Jdsteakley (talk) 08:44, 1 August 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Jdsteakley. You do indeed have a point. The auction house should have known that, too. The inscription is very hard to read, but could be read as 1841, which as you say, does not really make sense. Cheers --Rsteen (talk) 12:54, 1 August 2021 (UTC)
- By the way, there is a possible explanation for the date and the view. The pupils at the Academy were frequently asked to copy works from the Royal Museum in order to train their skills. This might be the case here, but it is just a theory. Cheers --Rsteen (talk) 15:10, 1 August 2021 (UTC)
