If the Maltese Order of St. John was created in 1798 by Tsar Paul, how could this portrait be painted in 1790 with the medal and chest-cross on his uniform, and the anchor embroidery of the so called "Maltiyskiy Mundir"? The standing collar also seems anachronistic for Catherine the Great's reign. Was the medal awarded by Malta itself earlier than that? I'd almost think this portrait was painted in 1800 or 1801 just before he died. 173.206.21.161 00:04, 21 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
