Identity

No reason to doubt the identity as Valparaiso, built in 1863 by J Currier, Newburyport, Mass. and here flying the house flag of George Howes & Co, New York. But just to note that the the flag letters flown are not correct. They should be HSFJ, according to the official "Annual List of Merchant Vessels of the United States". Those depicted appear to be HJLP, the 1206grt steamship Glaucus, built 1864. Davidships (talk) 10:13, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
