False author of this engraving.

[edit]

Hello everyone,

This portrait of pope is simply NOT by Jean-François de Neufforge and just because this web page claims it is does not mean it is necessarily true. This engraving is in the Bibliothèque nationale de France and a digital version is available online. By zooming in on the image (at the bottom left), we can read the words « Gravé par Bonnet, d’après le Dessein de Mr. Vien, Peintre du Roy, Proffesseur et Directeur des Elèves protegés par Sa Majesté. », so in English: “Engraved by Bonnet, according to the Drawing of Mr. Vien, Painter of the King, Teacher and Director of the Students protected by His Majesty.”.

The notice tells us that Louis-Marin Bonnet (1743-1793, engraver) and Joseph-Marie Vien (1716-1809, painter of the model), are perfectly identified, even under Wikipedia

I have, naturally, corrected all this in the text of the description and am without any problem, also be able to provide a version of the file with a significantly higher definition. But I have no right to modify the name of the file itself, which is totally inappropriate. Can anyone do this job?

Kind regards to all, :-)
