There is a problem with the sitter. This could be Elgersma and not Jelgersma. Not only the Rijksmuseum, but also the RKD, Beeldbank (City Archives) and British Museum mention Michiel Elgersma (febr. 1690-okt. 1759) as the sitter. On the bottom is also written Elgersma and not Jelgersma. The year of creation can only be after May 1758 when Greenwood arrived from Surinam in Amsterdam. There is similar drawing made two days before Elgersma died as the caption explains.
