Motion blur
[edit]I think that on photos like this one, either stars or buildings must have noticeable motion blur because of the long exposure. How was this image taken? --94.158.203.101 09:42, 21 August 2011 (UTC)
- I guess it is a combination of two photos (one fixed to the building and one fixed to the positions of the stars). Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 14:42, 21 August 2011 (UTC)
- I cannot believe it was "snapped". Looks more like a composite and possibly more. If the atmosphere was clear enough to see the stars, how was the laser visible? In my experience laser beams are not visible from the side unless you add smoke.Chemical Engineer (talk) 14:44, 3 September 2011 (UTC)
- Well, it is a powerful laser, so (I guess) some particles in the air could be enough to scatter enough light to the cam lens. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 15:40, 10 September 2011 (UTC)
- IMHO manipulated photos shouldn't be awarded or highlighted, no matter their spectacular results. Only simple, natural, one-shot pics should be taken into account.--Zarateman (talk) 02:23, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
- Well, to be encyclopedic (or similar) if a retouch is okay the changes made should be clearly described. I do not think that changes should be forbidden. Also a photo itself is a "change" to reality. A photo is not reality (2D instead of 3D, sensor sensitivity, camera settings, many many processing steps and alteration already inside the camera, ..). Persian Translation
[edit]Hi, Please add a Persian section to this protected image.

Thank you. Also please consider removing the protection on this file as it is quite annoying when I come across files protected in this way. If the English Wikipedia needs to avoid vandalism, they can take a local copy. There is no need to put obstacles in the way of Commons users. -84user (talk) 03:44, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
- I guess it was transcluded in Krinkle's autoprotected files or similar and therefore protected through cascading protection. According to the API, you should be able to edit it now. -- RE rillke questions? 10:49, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

Category:Paranal Observatory?
[edit]Hi there,
is there a reason, why this great picture isn't in the category Paranal Observatory as it is linked in the (German) description? But I'm not sure if this would be correct, thats why I ask. (I surely don't want to change anything on a page of picture like this one. ;) )
(Sorry for my bad english.. :-S )

Italian translation
[edit]In the Italian translation, "Chile" has to be substituted with "Cile", correct name in Italian. -- Gi87 (talk) 16:16, 2 February 2014 (UTC)
- If the image page was not "cascade" frozen I could fix this myself, however I have asked here whether an admin could do it. -84user (talk) 23:28, 2 February 2014 (UTC)
