I request renaming this image, which incorrectly represents the subject. The correct subject is "Archduchess Maria Carolina of Austria" (1748).

I refer to pages 309-310 of Barbara Stollberg-Rilinger (2017). Maria Theresia: Die Kaiserin in ihrer Zeit. Eine Biographie. Munich: C.H. Beck. ISBN 978-3-406-69748-7. On page 309, the main picture is reproduced. On the following page, the following paragraph appears. It is given first in the German original, and then in my own translation in English:

(English) "How Maria Theresa kept the memory of her deceased children is documented in a mural by Franz Anton Maulbertsch in the "Giant Hall" of the Hofburg in Innsbruck, which Maria Theresa commissioned to be painted as a monumental place of remembrance for her family after the sudden and unexpected death there of her husband in 1765. The mural shows the four little girls crowned with floral wreathes sitting on clouds: in the foreground is Johanna Gabriele, who died at the age of twelve, behind her Maria Elisabeth (the firstborn) at the age of three years, then Maria Carolina, who died shortly after her first birthday, and in the far background, only visible as a shadowy putto (cherub), the second Maria Carolina, who did not live an hour."

Stollberg-Rilinger cites studies of the work by Barta and Telesko. This image is the one she refers to as a shadowy "putto" (cherub), and is consistent with it being the second Maria Carolina, who died during birth in 1748. It cannot be Maria Christina, since Maria Theresa had only one daughter by that name, who lived 1742-1798.
