Member state in South America?
[edit]map shows member state in south america!?!? 76.90.237.99 16:39, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
- That's French Guiana. It's not a country but a region of France. Which raises a good question, if French Guiana, the Azores, and Canary Islands are marked as NATO, then for consistency all overseas territories of NATO members should be marked as such, yes? - Wikkiwonkk (talk) 07:08, 29 October 2020 (UTC)
- French Guiana should not be marked because it is part of France but not part of the NATO territory! All non-european territories are not part of NATO because the Treaty is only valid for Europe. --2A02:908:C33:A180:91DE:4F0:255F:6D3B 21:22, 28 June 2022 (UTC)

Afganistan a global partner of NATO?
[edit]As of December 23, 2021, is it still correct to describe Afghanistan as a "partner across the globe" of NATO? Seems strange since the Taliban, who NATO member states opposed, have controlled it for four months. --LonghornBob (talk) 00:55, 24 December 2021 (UTC)
No Kosovo on map?!
[edit]This is a disgrace. Wikipedia shoudn't do politics. Kosovo is a country. It is recognized by majority of NATO countries. It should be on a map. --Pp (talk) 16:04, 7 April 2022 (UTC)
Small outliers
[edit]Just scanning the map for outliers, brought up a change to be made and a few questions:
- The Faroe Islands are marked as grey but they are a part of NATO for the same reason as Greenland (part of/defended by Denmark); should they be dark blue and NATO seems to consider them to be as such. (Sources: NATO, Nordic Council)
- The UK Crown Dependences (Isle of Man, Jersey, Guernsey) and British Overseas Territories north of the Tropic of Cancer (Gibraltar, Bermuda) are marked as grey. The relationship between the UK, the BOTs, and the Crown Dependencies are complicated, but given that defence of them belongs to the UK and their locations, should it stay grey, be marked dark blue, or should they be given a new category for de facto NATO territory ("Defence responsible by NATO")?
- Similarly, the French overseas collectivity Saint Pierre and Miquelon is marked as grey; should it stay grey, dark blue (like French Guiana), or also also included in the hypothetical de facto category?

- I've re-added/reshaded Faroe Islands back to NATO per above. GreenRunner0 (talk) 04:06, 21 April 2022 (UTC)
Sweden?
[edit]How the modification process works? Can anyone add new member of NATO to SVG file? Sweden not yet on the map here: https://www.nato.int/nato-on-the-map/ but today after Hungary ratification, seems to be the official date when Sweden is member of NATO. Right?
