Lion in the supporter's banner
[edit]Shouldn't the lion in the banner (held by the dexter supporter) be facing the hoist? In the current image it faces the fly, which I think is an error unless it's blazoned a "lion sinister". Indefatigable (talk) 00:36, 14 January 2019 (UTC)
- Indefatigable I think that's probably correct; ping to @Sodacan: to ask the creator's opinion on this. As I understand it, the animals respect the flagpole, whichever way the heraldic wind is blowing. GPinkerton (talk) 00:32, 10 May 2021 (UTC)
- Having said this, most of the real-life examples I've looked at since appear to have the lion on the flag facing the fly. The pattern is not universal however: I'm not as certain now but I suspect the lion should face the hoist. For comparison, the British flag in the equivalent position in the arms of Canada is flown the correct way around. GPinkerton (talk) 02:59, 10 May 2021 (UTC)
Thistle
[edit]As has been noticed before, the image currently is an anachronism; the Order of the Thistle is much newer than the rest of the arms, and would not have appeared on the heraldry until the arms had long been quartered with those of other kingdoms. File:Royal Coat of Arms of the Kingdom of Scotland (Variant 1).svg is probably a better file to occupy this filename. GPinkerton (talk) 00:38, 10 May 2021 (UTC)
