The CO2 link has been taken down. I plan to replace it with the archive file, and I'll probably do so for the script too. The internet archive URL is [1]. I would actually recommend using internet archive addresses for all links used in Python script b/c they're far more stable than any particular agency or organization that hosts those files. As of 2022, the link ftp://aftp.cmdl.noaa.gov/products/trends/co2/co2_mm_mlo.txt works for CO2 data. --Geek3 (talk) 13:36, 18 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Bad data after 2000

[edit]

I'd like to suggest that the sunspot number average shown here is meaningless for years after 2000. The line shows the average number diving toward zero (!). But this is entirely an artifact of the fact that a 25 year average can't be done in any meaningful way when data doesn't exist yet. The dive toward zero occurs because sunspots are cyclic, and the data happen to end at a low point of the cycle. 128.156.10.80 19:38, 30 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You are right, in principle the averaged line should be shorter to include only properly averaged values, or use LOWESS-interpolation like in the temperature curve. As of 2022 however, this is not so problematic, as the sunspot curve is already through its minimum. --Geek3 (talk) 13:32, 18 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
