File talk:Thomas Lawrence Pinkie.jpg
My wife and I have recently purchased an apparent reproduction of this very piece. I am not art savy, but loved the painting discovered at a small, quaint antique store in the midwest. We were unaware the piece we purchased (at a modest price) was not authentic. It has been masterfully painted (It is NOT a print). The painter has signed this piece 'M.J. Engel 42'. We presume its 1942. I have done some web searching on M.J. Engel, and only find 'J.Engel' which was instrumental with Walt Disney. I do not beleive our Engel painting is the same chap. The piece we believed to have been an original (and was not) is the Thomas Lawrence masterpiece 'Pinkie', but my God, it is remarkable in its detail.
Does anyone know who 'M.J. Engel 42' is? I am no computer specialist. I have limited capability. Any direction or discovery would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Gene
