Contradiction

[edit]

@ User:Chrischerf: On the painting of Friedrich Wilhelm Kuhnert, and on the description it is stated that it was done in 1905 (English: Wilhelm Kuhnert: "Battle at Mahenge", German East Africa, 1905), on the next line (the year) 1908 is mentioned. Both dates must be wrong since they contradict with the Mahenge Offensive which took place between 28 August 1917 and 9 October 1917).

Unless: a. there was another battle prior to 1917, but clearly after 1914 (since WWI started in 1914) or

b. was it a battle between local tribes and the German forces? In this case, then, 1905 is correct, but I think is most unlikely, unless, it refers to the en:Maji Maji Rebellion (July 1905 – July 1907).

Thanking you for your attention! --Aristo Class (talk) 16:08, 8 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Aristo, point b is correct: the picture refers to a battle of the Maji Maji Rebellion in 1905 and not to world war one. See this Wikipedia-Article - unfortunately only in German - and this lexicon entry. I hope that clears this up. Best regards, --Chrischerf (talk) 16:59, 8 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Chrischerf, sincere thanks for your prompt respone! with kindest regards! --Aristo Class (talk) 17:15, 8 November 2019 (UTC) P.S. Incidentally, I am currently editing articles re. the East African Campaign (WWI) and was wondering if you could find a photo of de:Kurt Wahle. Thanks again! --Aristo Class (talk) 17:15, 8 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@User:Aristo Class voilà. It's not high quality because of the bad condition of the original. I found it in a book from R.K. Lochner, where it has the reference "General Wahle". Best, --Chrischerf (talk) 10:41, 10 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

My dear Chrischerf, has anybody ever told you that you are ... a treasure! (Kurt Wahle). A million thanks! --Aristo Class (talk) 11:11, 10 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, it was a pleasure for me. Off topic: As I see you are from Greece? Very interesting! :-) Greece is the "second home" of my parents. They have a house on the island Tilos since 40 years. Have a nice day and much success in Greek speaken Wikipedia. Best, --Chrischerf (talk) 11:39, 10 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
